MySpace Research Project

A long discussion about using MySpace as advertising has been part of Guerrilla Marketers @ Lulu Forum since April. Jumping onboard last week was Adam Schultz from Search Engine Lowdown.
Adam has been analyzing how to use MySpace as a tool for marketing for a while after he saw the potential with the success of the X-Man movie release who created a MySpace for its promotion. But what caught my attention was his entry on another author, Niambi, who has successfully created her MySpace and attracted over a thousand people to it. I would love to have her come here and share some of her experience with the site.

Since we deal with authors in our site we are exploring the possibilities to use this medium to create awareness for our books and connect to our readers. I just found out today about a new area in MySpace Books.

We have one author, Alan Baxter, who is using the medium to network with people who enjoy Dark Fantasy Fiction and getting some friends already reading his book and commenting on his space. He also uses it to drive people to his regularly updated blog.

The jury is out, the market potential is there, I guess it will be a matter of learning how to make it work and hopefully we’ll find a way right here. If we put our heads together and share our experiences I’m sure we’ll get somewhere.

So here is the deal for this research; for those authors who have a MySpace and would like to participate of this research I’ll welcome your ideas and experiences. Anything at all that you can think of, we'll look into it and see if we can put it to the test and share the results here. Make an entry on your blog and email me the link post to share here at Guerrilla Insight. We'll be storming some ideas and sharing experiences until the end of the month.

myspace site is http://myspace.com/sylviahubbard
and i've had a small success since I've been there networking and connecting to other writers I never thought I would meet. Its a great place to get out and show your work off to others and if you know a little html, you can make your page your site where people can really enjoy coming back to.

Thanks Adam, if we could talk to Niambi and discuss some of her results that would be great.

Sylvia,
I love your MySpace. Feel free to share your experience with it and how you made the contacts online to grow your audience.

I just got word from Niambi. She is going to try and join us soon to share her experience.

She did mention some interesting updates in her email to me among them "I have a speaking engagement with a New Jersey women's group in July as a result of MySpace".

How cool is that. I'm still waiting on the dish of how it happened.

Hi All--

The MySpace campaign is yielding great results. A woman invited to speak to her organization, Women of Destiny, at a public library in NJ. This resulted in a bulk purchase of my book and I will make add-on products available there.

I'll keep you posted...

All the best,

Thanks for letting us know Niambi, I hope you can take some time from your busy schedule and share with us more details. What kind of add-ons are you thinking about? We have a lot of authors looking into MySpace as one more way to reach their audience.

Congratulations on your achievements!

Hi all

You know, I think that MySpace has really been one of my most successful marketing strategies. There are several reasons, but among them are:

- It gives you a personal face that people can get to know and they can add you to their friends on their own MySpace page. This makes people feel a lot closer to authors.

- It's a place to showcase other parts of your promotions. For example, on my page I have links to my blog and links to my bookstore page. Every cover image of RealmShift on the MySpace page links to my bookstore page on my own website.

- Further to the above, all your online spaces can be cross-linked. If someone finds your blog it can lead to your MySpace page and vice versa. The more cross-marketing, the better!

- For every friend you add or that adds you, your network at MySpace expands exponentially. You can send a MySpace bulletin, which is a message that goes to all your friends. Ask your friends to forward it on and it goes to all their friends and so on. With so many users, it's a great way of spreading the word.

I'm certainly interested to learn more from others that are using MySpace.

Alan

...Hola, Clary:
Me uno a este interesante debate sobre el modo de promocionar la obra desde MySpace. Mi dirección está en:
http://www.myspace.com/leetamargo/

OK, SALUDOS, AMIGA: LeeTamargo.-

Everyone,
The previous post by Lee Tamargo, a Spanish author from Guerrilla Marketers' Cafe, concerns how MySpace presents itself as a good opportunity to connect to others and expose your work. He has a challenge with the language of the site which happens to be English, but I understand that MySpace is expanding to other countries. A Spanish version of MySpace I'm sure will be the next step for them for being the second most spoken language on the world. So just hang on tight this is just a matter of time, Lee.

Spanish:

Suerte!
