Natural Marketing for Full Book and Business Success

By Judy Cullins

Is your mind muddy on marketing? Do you wake up each day and say, "I get to share myself and my great message with others" or do you say, " I have to market, or I will fail."

Natural marketing refers to the action you take to get the word out about your service and product that rings true to your heart. It feels effortless without struggle, where ideas pop out, you lose track of time engaging in them, and you can't act on them fast enough! Natural marketing feels authentic and inspired.

Unnatural marketing feels like your actions go against what feels true for you. It isn't what you like to do normally; it isn't what you can do easily. Using this tactic, you may feel bored, fearful, or ambivalent. You go through the motions, but a part of you resists. When resistances and doubts pop up you can be sure they affect every marketing decision that can lead to small gains or a large success. They also do not attract willing customers.

Three Examples of Natural Marketing and How to Expand Them

1. You like to share ideas, so networking with others in business groups suits you. You gather business cards with names and numbers.

To expand this marketing, start to collect email addresses. Put them into email files in your computer by group or need. Your list could include your ezine subscribers, people who are interested in your service or book such as professional speakers, coaches or business people. You can create a file of email addresses from your teleclasses or seminars if you give them. Then, be sure to follow up two times a month, so you name is on your audience's lips. When it's time to act, they will think of you.

2. You like to speak in front of an audience and offer yourself to groups for an hour talk, a seminar, or a key note. Since you are talking about what you have to benefit others, you naturally attract these audiences to your service or product.

To expand this marketing, offer a free teleclass on a skill you can deliver that your audience needs. To make sure you attract them, first make a list of 5-10 benefits of each service and product. Benefits are the words and phrases of how your audience will look like, feel, and other desired outcomes that your service or product gives them. Include these in a short sales letter for your teleclass.

It's easy to market to each of these groups because you can practice this free ecommerce way free, and spend hardly any time implementing it. Expand your benefits in your web site sales letter with a link to your order page. It's unlikely you'll sell much without a sales letter for each product, class, or service you offer.

Expand yourself even further--Offer yourself as a guest speaker for a teleclass group. This cross-promotion more than doubles results and it's really easy.

3. You like to write. You may already have a book. You took time to write it and you can market it the same way--write an article. You have already contacted print magazines and even gotten published. Just remember the article submitted to article directories and top web sited is your 24/7 sales force because it points to the benefits of your information, and it shows you as the savvy expert. So don't be married to the idea you must be paid for it.

Articles are FREE advertising, FREE publicity, and are seven times as powerful as ads because each time you submit an article you join the many marketing masters using viral promotion. In time, you'll be connected to thousands, even hundred of thousands of other web sites with a link back to your site.

To expand this marketing and reach 1000 to 500,000 people daily, revise your print articles for the internet. Make them 400-800 words with a short introduction and conclusion, make them in tip or how-to format, and make them unique and useful. Contact a book or writing coach to help you write articles web sites will love.

Remember you are already successful. You have had many past wins. Success is part of your life. Think about one or two past successes. What led to them? What natural inclinations led to them? Maybe it was a particular creative idea you had, you read a book that triggered you to act, or you took a teleclass or seminar that gave you a how to move on. Maybe you hired a coach or got inspiration from a trusted friend or mentor. Or, persistence led you there.

Beware of just going through the motions with your business. When you do, you leak vitality and don't allow room for new ideas to come. These and other struggles keep you from accomplishing your heart's desire. Adjust and fine-tune your approach. Yet, stay in the natural flow and trust the best will come to you because you are using your natural abilities.

Of course you may worry about a learning curve, but if you open your mind to experiencing a much expanded success through the internet, you'll scratch your head and wonder, "Why didn't I do this sooner?"

What I want for you is to not only make 1/2 or more of your monthly income selling yourself and products online, but to make a positive difference to your audience. Share your gifts--that's what natural marketing is.

Habits of Effective Bloggers

I've writing for the last couple of weeks of this theme of blogging in our Free eZine, which you can sign up by the way by clicking on the side bar of this blog. This is a little project I'm working with Darren Rowse in ProBlogger. Since it is so hard to say what is effective and not for everyone a few people are going to share their ideas of what effective blogging mean for them according to their own experiences. I'm sure we'll learn about what others are doing and spark some ideas of our own depending of what it is we want to achieve with our blogs.

So here is my list of habits:

1) Know what you want to achieve with your blog before you start one. You might want to promote a service or product but we should not forget that blogging is about building relationships to those that relate to our blog topic. If you gear your blog solely in advertising and selling people are quickly going to go somewhere else.
2) Make sure you write on your blog frequently (every other day is ideal)
3) Be yourself, let your readers get to know the real you.
4) Give your readers a reason to come back. Provide up-to-date information.
5) Be on the lookout for topics related to your blog on the news and on other blogs and share them with your readers via links interjected among your own opinions.
6) Check your post for comments and answer them in order to communicate and build a relationship and trust.
7) Have fun, don't let your blog drag you down. I guess that's the reason why we should consider #1 carefully before you launch your own blog.

    1. More About Selling Your Books on eBay
I have also sold some books on eBay, but not as many as you did. I have an ebook on the topic of homeschooling. I listed it first under two categories - non-fiction and education / homeschooling, which is, unfortunately, in the "everything else" category on eBay where no one goes. I sold more copies under the non-fiction category than in the homeschooling category, so when the auction ended I listed it again only in non-fiction. I sold maybe 10 or 15 copies as ebooks before sales slowed. I didn't use the featured item, only a gallery photo. You've inspired me, though. It's almost summer, and that means more people are looking at homeschooling as an option for the next school year. I need to get the book ready to sell again for those who may be interested. Clarification: FeedBurner Does NOT Require Users to Point at Their Domain

Clarification: FeedBurner Does NOT Require Users to Point at Their Domain

    Yeah, I blundered.

In a recent article I wrote:
"If you've explored the RSS space in more detail you know that free services like FeedBurner allow you to easily place ads in your feeds and measure the feeds themselves, but they require you to direct your visitors to a republished version of your feed on their server."

Quite wrong, as I was kindly corrected by Traci Hailpern from FeedBurner.

Actually, the premium FeedBurner service MyBrand allows you to do exactly that: use all of the benefits of FeedBurner, but instead of directing your visitors to a republished version of your feed on their server, the MyBrand service allows you to serve your feed from your own domain, retaining all the SEO benefits of RSS.

A big "I'm sorry" to you, the readers, and to FeedBurner.

RSS Industry Night Roundtable II: About RSS Adoption

Pheedo, iUpload and PRWeb hosted the 2nd RSS Industry Night Roundtable last week, taking place next to the Ad:Tech event.

This time unfortunatelly I wasn't able to make it, nor will I be able to make the next one at the Syndicate Conference May 15th:(, since I'm speaking at the ACCM conference in Chicago next week and just don't have enough time to stay in the US for 2 weeks.

    A pitty ...

Anyway, this time round the industry night focused more on RSS adoption and how IE7 is going to influence it.

The most interesting comment comes from David Gillmor who believes that people won't really use RSS via IE7, but will rather opt-in for web-based RSS Readers.

Also much discussion about RSS advertising, where the people from ClickZ shared concernes that RSS advertising just isn't worth selling ... yet.

For more coverage visit Pheedo's blog, ClickZ Blog and The 360 blog.

Nooked and Infacta Go the First Step Towards RSS and E-mail Integration

In terms of delivering content to your subscribers, RSS is best used as a supplementary channel to e-mail, making all of your e-mail content available via RSS as well.

It's no surprise that e-mail marketing vendors are starting to work with RSS vendors to help bring these two channels closer together.

The latest comes from Nooked, one of the higher-end RSS marketing tool vendors, and Infacta, vendors of GroupMail, a great desktop e-mail marketing tool.

    Their integration ...

a] allows GroupMail and Nooked users to insert RSS feed items into e-mail messages,

b] insert e-mail messages via GroupMail into Nooked,

c] generate and deliver unique subscription links to Nooked-generated RSS feeds via GroupMail, to allow for full user tracking.

On the surface, these 3 benefits help e-mail marketers save time when duplicating their efforts to RSS, and even more importantly, allow them to easily promote trackable RSS feeds to their e-mail subscribers.

    More Coupon RSS Feeds: Zixxo

It's amazing how coupon "dealers" are starting to adopt RSS to allow their users to receive coupons via RSS feeds, in addition to other channels.

The newest player in this field is Zixxo, who actually give you access to local coupons, instead of just national "coverage".

They are taking a somewhat different approach than the Cost Savings Network by requiring users to first register with their e-mail address ... which depending on their marketing model might either be good or bad.

The lesson here is simple: if you request an e-mail address from your users before giving them access to your RSS feeds, you better have a very good business reason for doing so.
If it's not neccessary, just don't do it.

Graphic Design & Layout with Photoshop Elements

Graphic Design & Layout with Photoshop Elements
Photoshop Elements (PE) is a program that is powerful enough to edit photographs for book publications. I began to wonder if it could be used to create graphics from scratch. The thought was prompted by many of my books containing not only photographs but also maps, charts, flow diagrams, etc. A little bit of experimenting produced the graphic to the right. It is part of a Power Point

    Selling Books to Libraries
Thinking of selling your book to libraries? There are many of them, both in number and category: public, school, military, etc. However, there are several considerations that could slow the sales effort. Expedia Takes the Lead in Travel RSS Feeds

My greatest gripe against RSS marketing initiatives is that they're just poorly done.

You have a great company with an amazing product database that just calls for customized feeds ... and all you get from their RSS feeds are one-size-fits-all packages.

Really a waste. No one wants to receive updates on all US flights ... they just want to receive updates on the flights that really interest them. And here's the real power of RSS: bringing the most relevant content.

Expedia seems to understand that, at least based on their new RSS offering.

They allow you to customize your feed with Trip Type, your originating city, your destination and your package type.

Well, they could still do alot more, such as providing the option of selecting a price range, but it's a good beginning.

A New Breed of Branded RSS Reader: Inclue!

Inclue!, just released a couple of days ago, is a new breed of mass-market branded RSS Reader ... which integrates into Outlook (to consume RSS content), as well as Internet Explorer and FireFox (to directly subscribe to RSS feeds while surfing).

But why a new breed of branded Reader?

a] It integrates with Outlook, which most other branded RSS Readers don't (usually either web-based or desktop applications)

b] Publishers can create their own branded version (unfortunatelly only with their own feeds right now) in 5 minutes, and then distribute it via their Inclue! landing page, which is also automatically generated.

c] Publishers that sign-up for their affiliate program receive a commission when end-users decide to upgrade their Reader to the premium version.

d] The Include! Reader is based on viral methods to further spread your RSS feeds and help you get new subscribers, for example using the FeedBurner Flare tool to entice your RSS subscribers to get your branded Inclue! Reader. Similar links are also displayed when a user forwards an RSS feed item to his friends via Inclue!

To see how it works, take a look at my quick version (just a demo, haven't included all the feeds, a decent description and so on).

Inclue! also does a great job of promoting RSS to end-users, giving them concrete benefits of how RSS will actually help them ... from tracking eBay auctions to getting job notifications. Just take a look at the link above.

Essentially, the Reader is targeted at new RSS users, giving them simple functions, especially with their ease of subscribing to feeds with just one click.

Now I'm just waiting for them to add visual branding possibilities ... :)

    Publicity for Your Book
